District 191 Superintendent Dr. Theresa Battle announced that Salma Hussein will be the next principal for Gideon Pond Elementary. Ms. Hussein comes to District 191 from St. Paul Public Schools where she has served as assistant principal at Central High School for the last two years, focusing on family and community engagement, supporting teachers in providing culturally responsive instruction, and building a positive school culture.

“I’m so pleased to welcome Ms. Hussein to District 191,” Battle said. “Her experience and commitments mirror our values as a district and will be a great fit at Gideon Pond.”

Ms. Hussein holds a master’s degree in social work and was previously a school social worker in Minneapolis Public Schools. She is also a 2021 Bush Fellowship recipient pursuing her educational doctorate.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the loving community at Gideon Pond, a school where everyone is valued for who they are,” Hussein said. “I can't wait to get to know staff and families and work with you to keep up the excellent work you are all doing."

Hussein was selected from a strong pool of candidates after multiple rounds of interviews that included school staff and a parent representative.
