students enjoy a performance by the Havana Quartet

On Thursday, Oct. 23, Gideon Pond Elementary students had the exciting opportunity to attend a performance by the Havana Quartet, funded through MacPhail Center through Music: Project Amplify.

Project Amplify offers transformational programming that nurtures creativity, honors students’ backgrounds, and provides tools and resources to support K-12 education at no cost to schools or music educators.

Founded in 2017, the Havana Quartet has established itself as a leading ensemble in both classical and contemporary music, proudly representing the richness and diversity of Cuban culture. The quartet is composed of Hansel (director, violin), Ana (violin), Amaya (viola), and Denise (cello), all talented musicians and graduates of the University of the Arts in Havana. In addition to their work within the quartet, its members have performed with renowned Cuban orchestras, contributing to the vibrant musical landscape of their homeland.

In 2023, the quartet began a new artistic chapter in the United States, where they now collaborate with internationally acclaimed musicians and continue to refine their craft, quickly becoming an integral part of Minnesota’s dynamic cultural scene. The Havana Quartet stands not only as a symbol of Cuban musical excellence, but also as a cultural bridge that fosters understanding and joy through the transformative power of music.
